Hey everyone, for the next few posts, I will be
talking about making yourself look professional. People will tell you that the
advertising industry has a business casual environment therefore having a
corporate attitude may not be necessary. I will state the opposite because in
any business environment, you should always look your best by having a proper
business suit because looking professional overall shows your seriousness to
your colleagues and especially to your future employers. Even if the suit is
only for special occasions as wearing it every work day maybe too excessive for
the advertising industry, but there are those occasions where you may have a
tough client that demands a great amount of respect and professionalism from
you. This professionalism does not include your communication and presentation
skills when presenting your findings to your clients, rather it is about your
overall physical appearance that demonstrates your overall seriousness.
For myself, I suggest to all of you to get your
suits tailored and ready as you will be wearing it for all your business
presentations. In this line of work, that hoodie and jeans life just isn’t
going to cut it anymore as it makes you look like a student and it also just makes
you look sloppy. A nice dress shirt tucked in with dress pants and dress shirt for
guys while a blazer with a dress shirt in a business skirt/pants and heels or
flats will do perfectly.
With all seriousness, dressing up is fun. I love looking professional because it shows how serious I am and just the fact that people will see me as being responsible. When going into this industry, dressing up is important to impressing your clients as then they will take you seriously and to show you the respect that you deserve.
